About
Bryony Onciul's research interests include community engagement with museums and heritage sites, indigenizing and decolonizing museum practice and representation, cross-cultural heritage management, and the power and politics of display. She undertook a PhD, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, at the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies, Newcastle University. The research analysed community engagement with museum and heritage sites. Her focus was on indigenous Blackfoot community engagement with four case study museums and heritage sites in Southern Alberta, Canada.
Bryony Onciul is a teaching Associate at the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies at Newcastle University. She leads the undergraduate modules COM2032 Exhibiting Art, Exhibiting Cultures and COM1033 Arts and Heritage Media, and co-leads the Masters module Museum, Gallery and Heritage Management.
Bryony also contributes lectures and leads seminars for other modules in the department, and has done so for the past five years. These include MA level Museum, Gallery and Heritage Issues and Ideas; Heritage and the Media; Heritage and Tourism; Heritage Management; Interpretation and Exhibitions; Heritage Education; History; and Research and Professional Development. She also contributes to the Undergraduate module COM1032 Introduction to Museum Heritage and Gallery Studies.
