About

I graduated in Biochemistry from Cambridge University, then switched to Microbiology and the study of microbial biofilms. My PhD at the University of Warwick examined biofilms in drinking water distribution pipelines. After this, I moved into the Dental Research field for Post-Doc studies on dental plaque bacteria (primarily oral streptococci) under the direction of Prof. Howard Jenkinson at the University of Bristol. I studied interactions between dental plaque bacteria in Dr Paul Kolenbrander's lab at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, NIH, Bethesda, MD. In 2007, I joined Newcastle University where I continue to research into the microbiology of oral biofilms.
